The Dhaka University Debating Society (DUDS) is the central debating organization of the University of Dhaka, established in 1982 with the vision of fostering a culture of critical thinking, intellectual discourse, effective communication, and responsible leadership among university students.
Over the years, DUDS has grown into one of the most vibrant and extensive debating networks in the country, working closely with 18 affiliated Hall Debating Clubs and 81 Department-based Debating Clubs. With a community of 5,500+ members, DUDS represents a diverse and dynamic generation of young thinkers, speakers, and future leaders.
DUDS believes that debating is not simply about winning arguments — it is about learning to listen, questioning assumptions, engaging with diverse perspectives, and developing the courage to think and speak responsibly.
Debate competitions, workshops, training programmes, seminars, public speaking sessions and skill-development initiatives run throughout the year — in both Bangla and English.
Every milestone below widened who gets to speak, and about what.
DUDS is established as the central debating body of the University of Dhaka, built around a simple conviction: reasoned argument makes better citizens.
Hall and department debating clubs affiliate with the Society, turning debate from a club activity into a university-wide culture.
DUDS becomes a defining force in Bangladeshi debate, hosting flagship inter-university tournaments and training a generation of adjudicators.
British Parliamentary and World Schools formats mature at DUDS, with debaters and adjudicators representing Bangladesh internationally.
Workshops, seminars, public speaking sessions and partnership programmes run year-round, alongside one of the country's richest debating alumni networks.
Flagship championships, international partnerships, and a national festival — run by students, judged to world standards.

The Society's flagship intra-university championship, where every hall debating club sends its sharpest teams to compete in the British Parliamentary format.
