About the Society

Four decades of argument, carefully made

The Dhaka University Debating Society (DUDS) is the central debating organization of the University of Dhaka, established in 1982 with the vision of fostering a culture of critical thinking, intellectual discourse, effective communication, and responsible leadership among university students.

Over the years, DUDS has grown into one of the most vibrant and extensive debating networks in the country, working closely with 18 affiliated Hall Debating Clubs and 81 Department-based Debating Clubs. With a community of 5,500+ members, DUDS represents a diverse and dynamic generation of young thinkers, speakers, and future leaders.

DUDS believes that debating is not simply about winning arguments — it is about learning to listen, questioning assumptions, engaging with diverse perspectives, and developing the courage to think and speak responsibly.

Debate competitions, workshops, training programmes, seminars, public speaking sessions and skill-development initiatives run throughout the year — in both Bangla and English.
